Arsenal legend praises new signing as the Gunners play a dangerous contract game with Alexandre Lacazette

Welcome to our football.london Arsenal media round-up. With so much media nowadays to be keeping up with, there will be times where some headlines may slip through your fingers. But fear not, Football.london has your back. Here are some of the main stories relating to Arsenal in the past 24 hours you may have missed.

Martin Keown full of praise for new signing

Arsenal’s transfer window has been somewhat confusing. Despite them spending more than any team in the Premier League, fans still believe there are several areas on the pitch that need addressing.

However, one player who has impressed former Arsenal centre-back Martin Keown was new goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.
Keown stated on Saturday night’s Match Of The Day, despite his reservations on the Ramsdale addition, he was more than satisfied with his performance against Burnley.

“Ramsdale, really strong, 23 years of age, I questioned the purchase,” Keown said, “But I’ve been really happy with what he’s done. 35 crosses were coming into that box today.”

Coming from a man who was colossal at the back for Arsenal over a number of years, Ramsdale can certainly be pleased with Keown’s praise.

No contract talks for striker

Alexandre Lacazette appears to be surplus to requirements at Arsenal.

Despite Arteta claiming the striker still has a part to play for the club, ESPN reports there has been no new contract offer for Laccazette to consider.

The Frenchman’s Arsenal contract expires at the end of the 2021/22 season, which could see him leave the Emirates on a free in the summer, but Spanish outlet La Razon reports both Sevilla and Atletico Madrid could make a move for the striker in the January window.

Despite the price potentially not being much, Arsenal will surely want to receive a figure of money for the player if he were to go.

However, Laccazette could sign a pre-contract with another club which would see him honour his Arsenal contract but still leave in the summer. Food for thought for Arteta and Arsenal’s board.

Gunners dealt Lautaro Martinez blow

Both Arsenal and north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur have actively been linked with Inter Milan striker Lauraro Martinez, as the player had a release clause for around £55m in the summer.

However, Martinez is in talks with Inter over a new deal and has agreed, according to The Mirror, to scrap his release clause meaning the price tag could be significantly higher if the player were to join another club in the future.

With Arsenal’s main striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang looking past his best, and Alexandre Laccazette’s contract coming to an end, Mikel Arteta will be keen to address the striker issue but may face an uphill task if he believes the solution is Inter’s Martinez.
