Arsenal legend praises £35m summer transfer decision ahead of Alex Iwobi's Emirates return

Arsenal made the right decisions to let Theo Walcott and Alex Iwobi go to join Everton.

That's the verdict of former Arsenal defender Nigel Winterburn, who has been speaking about the two former Gunners ahead of the clash with Everton at the Emirates Stadium.

Walcott left Arsenal in January 2018 after 12 years in north London, while Iwobi was sole to the Toffees last summer in a deal worth around £35million.

As such, Iwobi will be making his first return to the Emirates Stadium since leaving Arsenal, when the Toffees visit north London this afternoon.

But ahead of the game, Winterburn has spoken out about the decisions made by Arsenal to let the pair go, adding that he believes the Gunners did so at the right time.

"No, Arsenal didn’t get rid of Theo Walcott or Alex Iwobi too early," he said, speaking to GentingBet( 18+ BeGambleAware) .

"I think it was the right time for Theo to move on.  He was in and out the team and people were talking about his consistency, but I think it was the right time.

"He did some good stuff for Arsenal but it was probably the right time for him to leave.

"Alex Iwobi was a player I liked, but he frustrated me quite a lot as well with his end product. He has got end product at times, but he’s not consistent enough. He still needs to develop that side of his game, and it was 30 odd million pounds.  I think that’s a good fee."
