Arsenal legend Paul Merson makes Tottenham and Harry Kane jibe amid Manchester City links

On Sunday afternoon, Chelsea and Tottenham are set to go head to head in what looks to be a mouth-watering contest.

The Blues have continued their fine form under German coach Thomas Tuchel, picking up 10 points from a possible 12, which includes convincing victories against Crystal Palace, Arsenal and Aston Villa.

Spurs also had a fine start to the season, with three consecutive wins against Manchester City, Wolves, and Watford.

Last week, however, the north Londoners suffered a devastating blow, losing 3-0 against Patrick Vieira's new look Crystal Palace side.

It was a performance that left many Spurs fans extremely frustrated, particularly with the approach new manager Nuno Espirito Santos took in selecting three defensively more minded midfielders.

It was certainly a frustrating afternoon for star man Harry Kane, who failed to register a single shot on goal against the Eagles, and former Arsenal legend Paul Merson believes that the England captain missed a great opportunity to play for a top-four club this summer.

Merson then went on to stress how far behind the current Tottenham team is in comparison to Chelsea.

"Chelsea will have a bench full of players Tottenham would kill for this weekend - and that has to hurt Harry Kane," he said in his column for the Daily Star.

"He missed his big chance to move to a top four club this summer and he’ll be playing against one that has gone past Spurs big time in the last few years.

"You look at the subs Chelsea had against Aston Villa the other week - Cesar Azpilicueta, Jorginho, Timo Werner, Mason Mount, Ben Chilwell.

"They would all get in the Spurs team. N’Golo Kante and Christian Pulisic weren’t even in the Chelsea squad. If you were Tottenham you would take every single one of those players.

"They are a million miles away from competing with Chelsea for trophies this season."
