Former Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini is close to joining Serie B outfit Brescia, with the 36-year-old having offered his services to the club.
Flamini has been out of work in football since last year after he was released by Spanish top-flight side Getafe last year. He made over 245 appearances for Arsenal during two separate spells in North London, scoring thirteen times and claiming ten assists.
The Sun reports that the midfielder has spoken to Brescia about the possibility of joining after a previous attempt to land a contract with divisional rivals Monza, which was ultimately unsuccessful.
During his time with the Gunners, Flamini won the FA Cup three times and lifted the Community Shield on two occasions.
He is thought to be among the richest footballers in the world thanks to his involvement in co-founding GFBiochemicals, a company seeking to revolutionise the energy industry.
Since 2008 they have worked on the mass production of levulinic acid, which could provide a sustainable alternative to oil-based products in the future.
Flamini has also played for a number of Europe's top clubs including Marseille and AC Milan, where he won his only Serie A title in 2011. Despite enjoying a long career at the highest levels of the club game, he was only capped by France three times, most recently in October 2008.
Brescia, his potential new destination, were relegated from Italy's top flight last season and have struggled so far this campaign.
They sit in 12th place, four points adrift of the play-off places, having won just once in league action.
However, the possible addition of Flamini would provide an experienced head in the dressing room which could have a positive effect on their hunt for promotion at the first attempt.
