Arsenal legend launches Wilfried Zaha charm offensive by telling forward he is too good for Crystal Palace

Arsenal legend Paul Merson has told Wilfried Zaha he is too good for Crystal Palace following the forward's failed attempts to force a move to the Emirates over the summer.

Zaha and his camp made no secret of his desire to make the switch to the Gunners but Palace rebuffed each of Arsenal's attempts to secure his services.

Everton also attempted to sign the 26-year-old who went to the lengths of handing in a transfer request - but could not seal an exit from Selhurst Park.

He is yet to find the net or provide an assist in five games so far this season - and Merson, who won two league titles in north London, reckons he's too good for the Eagles.

"You look at it and Zaha had one shot straight at the keeper,” Merson told Sky Sports after Palace's 4-0 defeat at Tottenham .

“Every time he got the ball they fouled him. Every single time he got the ball they fouled him.

"It must be frustrating for him, playing at Palace and I don't want to sound disrespectful, but he's better than that, it seems like he has to do it all on his own."

Zaha had a hand in 20 goals in the top flight last term, scoring 10 and laying on the same number for his teammates.

Palace travel to winless Wolves on Sunday.
