Arsenal legend Kenny Sansom has been taken to hospital.
The 61-year-old was allegedly beaten up in a drunken row and is now being treated at Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.
It's being reported that Sansom fell down and seriously injured his head following a disagreement.
According to the Daily Mail, Sansom has so far been unable to help police with their enquiries, while his family are by his bedside in hospital.
A tweet from Sansom's Twitter account on Friday read: "Kenny is currently ill in hospital. He is being well cared for and does not have COVID-19.
"Kenny’s family and close friends kindly ask the media to respect his and their privacy, plus that of the healthcare workers treating Kenny."
Sanson is regarded as one of the finest left-backs to play for Arsenal and former striker Alan Smith compared Tierney to the former England international earlier in the season.
"I’ve got to mention Kieran Tierney’s contribution [against Liege] because the way he has performed in his first two appearances for Arsenal suggest the left-back is capable of following in the footsteps of greats like Kenny Sansom, Nigel Winterburn and Ashley Cole," he told the Evening Standard.
"Swift, skillfull and tough, the young Scotsman’s crossing ability especially appeals.
"For any striker, it’s very handy to know when the ball is coming in so you can make your run with real confidence. Tierney doesn’t mess about.
“A sharp shift and whip has become a trademark already.
“It reminded me of the wonderful service provided by Brian Marwood in our 1988-89 title-winning season.
"Brian didn’t always feel the need to beat his man. He’d chop the ball inside before curling in a beauty, a move that created lots of goals that year for Arsenal’s No.9.
“And similar service from Tierney wouldn’t have escaped [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang’s attention."
