Edu's return to North London was confirmed on Tuesday.
The former Arsenal midfielder has returned to the club and taken up the role of technical director, In the job at the Emirates, Edu will work with the first team coaches and will have a say on scouting and recruitment at the club. It is also believed that the Brazilian had a big part to play in Gabriel Martinelli's move to Arsenal.
Following official confirmation of his appointment, Edu spoke of how he hopes to make a positive impact on his old club.
“Arsenal has always had a special place in my heart and I’m thrilled to be returning to this great club in this new role," he told the club's official website.
"We have a strong squad and some very talented young players with fantastic people at every level. I’m looking forward to helping make a difference.”
The Brazillian was at the club as a player between the years of 2001 and 2005 and was part of the squad that went the whole Premier League season unbeaten in 2004.
Upon the announcement of his appointment, Arsenal legend Ian Wright took to social media to give his thoughts on the midfielder's return.
"Welcome home my friend," he wrote.
"Great appointment moving the club in the right direction. Someone that understands what it takes and understands the club + our fans."
Edu will now be hoping to help Unai Emery to strengthen the squad ahead of the 2019/20 Premier League season, with the defence and wide areas emerging as priority areas for the team.
