Arsenal legend Ian Wright explains where Tottenham got it wrong vs West Ham

Tottenham suffered their first defeat at their new home ground on Saturday.

Michail Antonio scored the only goal of the game as West Ham took all three points back across London to put a dent in Spurs' top four hopes.

Spurs remain third in the table and will stay there come the end of the weekend, even after Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United play their games in hand on Sunday.

However, all three have the opportunity to close the gap on Mauricio Pochettino's side.

Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer names the West Ham star who was 'almost perfect' vs Spurs

After a faultless record at their new stadium in N17, defeat to the Hammers came as something of a shock, particularly as three points could have all-but secured a Champions League place next season.

Pochettino deployed Juan Foyth as a right wing-back and Danny Rose as a left wing-back during the game, although Rose and Ben Davies interchanged throughout.

But none of them offered the width Spurs usually give, and Match of the Day pundit Ian wright felt that was Spurs' biggest problem on the day.

He said: "They lacked a bit of width and I think they played into West Ham's hands

"There were occasions when Spurs could have stretched West Ham, opened them up, but they didn’t do it, they didn't do it. Davies, Dele Alli, they couldn’t do it.

The incredible Tottenham record ended by West Ham that had nothing to do with the new stadium

"Even when [Fernando] Llorente came on, you thought they might get crosses into the big man, you could see where the space was, but they couldn’t work it out wide.

"West Ham were very strong and they snuffed them out at every opportunity."
