Arsenal legend Ian Wright delivers worrying Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang transfer verdict

The question over of Pierre-Emerick Aubamyang's Arsenal future is set to run and run.

The Gabonese striker will enter the final year of his contract at the Emirates at the end of this season, with no breakthrough over an extension in north London.

Aubameyang has 49 Premier League goals in nearly two-and-a-half seasons with the Gunners, sharing the Golden Boot last season with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

He is on course to win the Golden Boot this season, with 17 goals to his name, and without him Arsenal would be in a whole lot more trouble than they are in.

The Gunners are ninth in the Premier League table, but would be 18 points worse off without his goals.

At the age of 30, the next contract could be his last big one and it could be his last opportunity to win some more silverware before his career comes to an end.

And Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes the frontman "deserves better" than what Arsenal are giving him right now.

Speaking to Premier League Productions, he said: "If you can imagine him in a better team, he would be winning Premier Leagues and vying for places in Champions League finals and I think he deserves that.

"You don’t see him particularly vocal on the pitch, pointing and screaming, but it’s what he does in respect of his leadership with the goals that he scores.

"If you take his goals out of that team then they’re in a massive heap of trouble. We’re talking about a goalscorer who is scoring at the rate of a Champions League player, a world-class goalscorer.

"We’re talking about the last big contract in his career. I just hope that the love that he has for the club and the fans have for him is enough for him but I wouldn’t want to be in his position because it’s a tough one for him."
