Arsenal legend Ian Wright blasts Joelinton for 'not delivering' for Newcastle United

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has hit out at Newcastle United forward Joelinton for 'not delivering' for the Magpies.

The Brazilian forward became Newcastle's club record signing when he joined the club for around £40million from German side Hoffenheim in the summer of 2019.

The 24-year-old has struggled to find the back of the net since his move to England, though, scoring just three Premier League goals in 53 appearances.

Newcastle's blunt attack has been criticised in recent weeks, with United scoring just once from open play in their last seven matches.

Top scorer Callum Wilson has scored eight goals this term but he is very much the exception to the rule and Wright, who recently covered the Magpies' 2-0 defeat to Arsenal in the third round of the FA Cup for BBC Sport, has slammed their attacking output.

And the former England, West Ham, Crystal Palace and Celtic forward took particular aim at Joelinton, who he compared to under-fire Arsenal winger Nicolas Pepe.

“When you watch Newcastle they literally haven’t got anything going forward,” Wright told Wrighty's House Show on the Ringer FC podcast.

“Almiron is meant to be that one. Yes, they have Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser, once he gets fit.

“But you look at Joelinton and, honestly! We were talking about him and Pepe, that’s £110million.

“When you’re talking about output that’s a lot of money on those two players who, with all due respect, are not delivering.”
