Arsenal legend has stark warning for Tottenham over Man United's Mauricio Pochettino interest

Tottenham are at great risk of losing Mauricio Pochettino to Manchester United if their struggles so far this season continue, Charlie Nicholas has warned.

Spurs have endured a difficult start to the campaign, suffering a heavy defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League which was followed by another loss at the hands of Brighton.

That has raised the pressure upon the North London side ahead of the clash against Watford, which is the start of a testing run of matches with ties against Red Star Belgrade, Liverpool and Everton on the horizon.

Should the situation not improve, former Arsenal star Nicholas has claimed that Pochettino could make the 'deadly switch' to move to Old Trafford.

"When we look back to the start of the season, we looked at Liverpool and Man City to lead by a distance, but thought Tottenham would be next," he told Sporting Life.

"They spent a lot of money, got the stadium behind them, had a lot of players signing contracts and held on to Mauricio Pochettino too. It was a statement, but that has fallen dramatically.

Mauricio Pochettino's first Premier League press conference

"Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld used to have one of the best partnerships in the Premier League, and now is one of the worst in the Premier League. They want to get out in January, as does Christian Eriksen.

"The whole collapse of Tottenham has been the biggest surprise of the season for me. If this continues, while the Man United situation is ongoing, Pochettino could make that deadly switch.

"We know Sir Alex Ferguson is a big fan of the Tottenham manager, and United cannot afford to get it wrong again. The fallout at Tottenham is the biggest surprise for me."
