Arsenal legend hands Tottenham and Mauricio Pochettino a huge transfer deadline day blow

Tottenham Hotspur's hope of signing a right-back on transfer deadline day has suffered a massive blow.

The Lilywhites sold Kieran Trippier to Atletico Madrid in a deal worth a reported £20m fee last month, but are yet to bring in a replacement for the England international.

There is a possibility that Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino opts against dipping into the transfer market and places his faith in Serge Aurier and Kyle Walker-Peters this season.

Although, this week has seen links to Nice right-back Youcef Atal.

Regarded as one of the most dynamic full-backs in Europe, the 23-year-old loves to drive forward with the ball and dribbled as frequently as ex-Chelsea star Eden Hazard last season.

He has also been linked with a move to the Blues - once their transfer ban is over - and caught the eye for Algeria at this summer's Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

However, Nice boss - who just happens to be Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira - has ruled out Atal leaving on deadline day.

"These are players who will not leave," Vieira told reporters when asked about the futures of Atal as well as young defender Malang Sarr.

Juan Foyth is another option at right-back having played there towards the end of last season as well as for Argentina at this summer's Copa America tournament.

However, he's set to miss the first month of the new campaign through injury - sustained in the Audi Cup penalty shoot-out win over Bayern Munich last week.

An official statement via the club's official website reads.

"After undergoing assessment over the past few days, we can confirm that Juan Foyth has sustained a lateral ligament injury to his left ankle following a challenge in our Audi Cup match against Bayern Munich.

"The Argentina international, who will miss the opening two games of the season due to suspension, will now undergo a period of rehabilitation and is expected to return to training in September."
