Arsenal legend gives clue over Eddie Nketiah's future as Bristol City target is recalled from Leeds United loan

Nigel Winterburn says he expects Eddie Nketiah to go out on loan for the second half of the season.

Nketiah was recently recalled from his loan at Leeds United by the Gunners due to a lack of game time, and Bristol City are keen to take him for the second half of the season.

Arsenal legend Winterburn says he cannot wait to see Nketiah progress, but admits the young striker still needs game time.

Winterburn told BBC Radio Leeds: "He is a terrific talent, and I am looking forward to seeing how he progresses.

"He has been talked about very, very highly.

"My gut feeling is he will probably go out on loan again, but if he does, he needs to be playing.

"He needs to get that experience."

Winterburn's comments come after manager Mikel Arteta confirmed he was set to talk to the Gunners' loan department about Nketiah's future.

He told Football London : "We have to sit down with the loan department and we'll do that this afternoon, to discuss the best possible way for him to keep developing.

"I think the environment that he's been living in has improved him as a player, 100%. He played some minutes, not as much as we wanted, but he's a kid with incredible potential and we have to make a decision for the club, not for the next four months but for his career.

"What's the best thing to do? We have to sit down with him, hear from him - that's very important because we need to know what he needs as well - and make the right decision for the next five months.

"I think the first idea was that he was going to be on loan for the rest of the season."
