Arsenal legend Gilberto Silva delivers verdict on Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny at Man United

Arsenal legend Gilberto Silva has praised the Gunners for picking up a big win at Manchester United, and says that the midfield duo of Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny "look like a powerful partnership".

The Gunners held firm throughout the game to limit United to few chances, with Partey and Elneny dominating the midfield as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer elected to field a diamond formation.

Arsenal took the lead with 20 minutes left as Hector Bellerin was brought down in the penalty area, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang dispatching coolly from the spot.

Gilberto Silva tweeted after the game that it was "three huge points" for the Gunners, and "Elneny and Partey looks like a powerful partnership. Congratulations Arsenal".

Gilberto formed a devastating partnership of his own with Patrick Vieira during his time at the club, and came up in infamous battles against Roy Keane in fixtures against United.

And the former United captain was quick to make comparisons between Partey and Arsenal's old skipper following the game.

"Brilliant. We said before the game, this guy is no mug, he's played at big clubs, in big competitions and we saw it today," Keane said on Sky Sports.

"When you watch a player live - that’s when you can judge a player.

"The more I look at him, I wish he was in Man United’s midfield; big, strong and aggressive.

"I go back to my battles with Patrick Vieira, I think this kid’s got a chance of matching what Patrick used to do because he’s big, he’s strong, he’s aggressive, and he likes to pass a football forward.

"He can deal with the ball, he looks comfortable on the ball - just little details - a bit of composure, good first touch and retaining possession, that’s the aim of the game."
