Arsenal legend explains what sets Callum Hudson-Odoi apart from teammates and other young stars

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has hailed the performance of Chelsea starlet Callum Hudson-Odoi after his key contribution for England against Montenegro.

Hudson-Odoi assisted England’s second goal as they took a 2-1 lead into the break in Montenegro.

The 19-year-old was handed the start by manager Gareth Southgate despite having never received the same opportunity at Chelsea in the Premier League.

'Absolutely superb' - Chelsea fans are all saying the same thing about Hudson-Odoi and Barkley

But despite an error early on as he didn’t do enough to help out the defence in the lead-up to Marko Vesovic’s opener for the hosts, Hudson-Odoi assisted Ross Barkley’s goal before the break.

Barkley had earlier provided the ball for Michael Keane to equalise before Hudson-Odoi broke inside and shot towards goal, with Barkley directing the ball home.

Hudson-Odoi was able to terorise the Montenegro attack throughout the game, with their defenders regularly backing off as he ran at them in tandem with Raheem Sterling on the opposite wing.

Former Arsenal star Wright was full of praise for Hudson-Odoi as a result, especially for the way he dealt with his earlier mishap.

Gareth Southgate opens up on when he knew Callum Hudson-Odoi could star for England

“For an 18-year-old coming in, he hasn’t started for his club, he’s learning on the job here in international football,” Wright told ITV Sport.

“It’s the way he’s just continuously played like I know he can play, how we’ve seen him play. That’s all that matters for me.”
