Arsenal legend Alan Smith has a message for Alexandre Lacazette

Arsenal legend Alan Smith believes Alexandre Lacazette needs a 'big season' for the Gunners.

Lacazette scored in tonight's clash with West Ham at the Emirates Stadium, and after his goal, former Arsenal striker turned Sky Sports co-commentator Smith gave his verdict on the Frenchman.

Smith believes Lacazette has struggled 'at times', but thinks the frontman's two goals in his first two games of the season will be a big boost.

“I think Arsenal need a big season out of Lacazette," Smith said on Sky Sports.

"He’s struggled in the last couple of campaigns at times. His goalscoring tallies haven’t been what he would have wanted them to be, but a couple of goals in his first two games will do him the world of good.”

Lacazette has been with Arsenal since 2017, making 98 league appearances and scoring 39 Premier League goals.

He scored 12 times in all competitions last season and was linked with an exit this summer.

But both Lacazette himself and boss Mikel Arteta dispelled those rumours.

"I am really happy,' Lacazette told the club website.

"It's only the press that says I'm not happy. From the beginning I've said I am happy at Arsenal and I want to play and win titles.

"We won a title last month so I am happy with Arsenal."
