Arsenal learn dates for Premier League fixtures with Newcastle United and West Brom in May

Arsenal have found out when they will play their first two Premier League fixtures in the month of May.

The Gunners have had an eventful past few days to say the least after signing up to the European Super League before being forced to perform a dramatic U-turn on the decision and issuing an apology for it just 48 hours later due to mounting fan opposition.

Somewhat ironically for a team who were aiming to be in a competition designed specifically for Europe's elite, Arsenal find themselves ninth in the Premier League.

While it may seem that this means winning the Europa League is their best bet of playing continental football next season, Mikel Arteta has insisted that his side will keep fighting to finish in the top four or top six until it is mathematically impossible to do so.

And now they have found out exactly when they will be doing that in May.

The Gunners kick off their fixture list in the final month of the season with a trip to relegation battling Newcastle where loanee Joe Willock has been impressing in recent weeks.

That game will take place at St. James' Park on Sunday May 2 at 14:00 BST with viewers in the UK being able to watch it on Sky Sports.

They will then return home to the Emirates for a tie against West Brom, who are also hoping to avoid going down to the Championship this season.

Like Newcastle, the Baggies have an Arsenal loanee on their books in Ainsley Maitland-Niles, who has spent most of the second half of the campaign playing in his preferred central midfield position for Sam Allardyce's side.

That match will take place on Sunday May 9 and will a 19:00 BST kick off. It will be broadcast to viewers in the UK on BT Sport.

Sandwiched in between the two fixtures will be the second leg of the Gunners Europa League semi final second leg against Unai Emery's Villarreal which takes place at the Emirates on Thursday May 6th at 20:00 BST.

With the priority assumed to be the European competition it is likely that Arteta will look to rotate his side across both Premier League fixtures to ensure that his most important players are fresh for the vital midweek match.

This was the case in the 1-1 draw with Fulham on Sunday where the Spaniard made five changes to his side, including just a second start for on loan goalkeeper Mat Ryan.
