Arsenal launch second attempt to land former player Edu as technical director

Arsenal have launched a fresh bid to convince former player Edu to become their technical director, according to The Sun.

The Gunners are still searching for someone to take on the job and replace Sven Mislantat, who left the club in the summer.

They have recently missed out on Monchi, who went back to Sevilla, and Marc Overmars, who penned a contract extension at Ajax.

Member of their famed Invincibles Edu has now come back onto the radar - having rejected the role to stay with the Brazilian national team in January.

The 40-year-old is their No.1 target to work with Unai Emery and attempt to rebuild the Gunners.

He played under Emery for a season at Valencia and Arsenal are still hopeful of convincing him to turn his back on his role as Brazil general co-ordinator to return to club football.

Since missing out on Monchi and Overmars and going back to the drawing board, the north London club have been linked with Andoni Zubizarreta.

The former Barcelona and Spain goalkeeper currently works at Marseille but it has now emerged Edu is also on the shortlist for the role.

The Gunners are placing plenty of importance on the appointment in order to allow Emery to focus on his side.

"We need a sporting director, it's coming," Emery recently said. "The most important thing is my focus with the players in each match.

"The club is working and thinking for next season."
