Arsenal issue injury update ahead of Watford clash amid fitness concerns over midfield pair

Arsenal are confident over the fitness of Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira, while defender Rob Holding is now back in full training.

Holding, 23, ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in the draw with Manchester United in December.

He has been out of action for nine months but has continued his comeback with the club's Under-23s side.

But the club have confirmed he is now in full training with the first-team squad and could be in contention for the trip to Watford this weekend.

The Gunners head to Vicarage Road as they look to build on a decent start to the season.

Arsenal have also issued updates on defensive pair Hector Bellerin and Kieran Tierney.

Like Holding, Bellerin is a long-term absentee and has been out of action since January with a knee problem.

But he is progressing well and should be back in full training by the end of the month, alongside Tierney.

The Scottish defender was signed from Celtic despite recently undergoing surgery and Unai Emery will hope to have him back soon after allowing Nacho Monreal to return to Spain.

Arsenal are also confident on Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira, who both appeared to pick up niggles during the international period.

Xhaka limped off in the latter stages of Switzerland's 4-0 Euro 2020 qualifying victory over Gibraltar on Sunday night with an Achilles problem

Fellow midfielder Torreira was taken off shortly before half-time in Uruguay’s 2-1 friendly victory over Costa Rica.

But the Gunners confirmed no players had reported injuries but any of those returning to the club would be assessed in the coming days.
