Arsenal injury update: Gabriel Jesus, Eddie Nketiah and Mohamed Elneny latest news and return dates

Arsenal are getting closer to having a full-strength attack to pick from after a number of injury issues.

Gabriel Jesus is back in the squad following knee surgery but questions remain over when he will make his return ot the starting line-up.

There has also been good news on the fitness front regarding Emile Smith Rowe and Leandro Trossard in recent weeks, although Eddie Nketiah continues to contend with an issue.

Fortunately for Mikel Arteta as the Premier League title run-in intensifies, only Mohamed Elneny is out long-term as Arsenal can soon hope to enjoy having a near fully-fit squad to play with.

Here is your latest update of Arsenal injuries and return dates...

Gabriel Jesus

A 13-minute cameo off the bench against Fulham marked Jesus’ return to action following a knee injury that required surgery at the World Cup.

The question now is whether he will start when Sporting CP come to the capital on Thursday night in their Europa League last-16 tie.

It feels somewhat unlikely that Arteta would rush Jesus back into the XI for such an important game with Sunday’s visit of Crystal Palace perhaps a better option after the striker was told he will have to “earn his place”.

Arteta said on the weekend: “It’s a big boost, the first step today. Gabi said to me a few days ago, ‘I’m still missing something’. Yesterday I looked in his eyes and he said, ‘I’m ready’. He looks free, he looks ready. To see him there with a smile on his face was a joy. I was really happy for him.”

Eddie Nketiah

Nketiah posted an update on his recovery from an ankle injury to Instagram this week, with a photo of his latest session in the gym underlining fears that he is some way off a playing return.

The striker did not appear at Tuesday’s training session having last played in the defeat to Everton a fortnight ago.

Arteta said after that match: “We are assessing [Eddie] and it’s a bit uncertain what’s going to happen with him, to be honest. Let’s see and keep the options open. He’s very positive about it, so hopefully he will be fine.”

Mohamed Elneny

Arsenal are set to be without Elneny for the rest of the season after he underwent surgery on a knee injury.

The Egyptian last appeared in January’s FA Cup win at Oxford and even scored a goal in that game before suffering the blow in training.

The club confirmed at the end of January that he will be out for a “significant” period of time.
