Arsenal injury news ahead of Leeds United clash as Gunners sweating on fitness of key players

Leeds United's task of preventing a third straight Premier League defeat will not be easy as they host Arsenal at Elland Road after the international break.

Both sides have had inconsistent starts to the season, with Marcelo Bielsa's side winning three, losing four, and drawing one. They sit 15th in the table. Whereas the Gunners, who sit 11th, have won four and lost four ahead of their upcoming clash with the Whites at Elland Road on November 22.

The two teams first met on December 20, 1924, when Arsenal won 6-1 at home. Since then they have met a further 119 times and the London club leads the head to head by 47 wins to 41, with 32 of the matches ending in draws.

But Mikel Arteta's side will be without some important players and face an anxious wait over the fitness of one star in particular. Leeds themselves are likely to be missing Kalvin Phillips while he recovers from a shoulder injury, but Rodrigo and Diego Llorente could play some part in the Arsenal game.

Here is a round-up of Arsenal's injury news.

Thomas Partey

The 27-year-old midfielder did not return for the second half against Aston Villa on Sunday, when the game was at 1-0, due to a thigh problem.

Arsenal missed his presence as they fell to a heavy 3-0 loss at the Emirates,  thanks to a brace from Ollie Watkins and an own goal from Bukayo Saka.

According to Goal, the Ghanaian, who signed for £45m from Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window, will be staying at Arsenal during the international break due to his injury.

But according to Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications director Henry Asante Twum, he claims they are still waiting to hear from Arsenal if Partey will be available for the international games or not.

“We’re expecting information on Thomas Partey today from Arsenal whether he’ll be available for the Black Stars or not in the doubleheader,” he told Nhyira FM on Tuesday.

Partey has already been compared to Patrick Vieira following his start to life at Arsenal.

Gabriel Martinelli

The 19-year-old forward has been sidelined since June 21 where he suffered a left knee injury during a training session.

According to the club, Martinelli had a successful arthroscopic procedure undertaken to repair a lesion in the cartilage of the left knee. Arsenal say he has been involved in group sessions and is aiming to return to full training by December.

Pablo Mari

The 27-year-old centre-back has been out injured since June after suffering a significant sprain to ankle ligaments.

The club are aiming to integrate the Spaniard back into full training after the November international period. But the Leeds match may be a game too soon for the 6ft 4inch defender.

Callum Chambers

Callum Chambers suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee against Chelsea way back on December 29 last year.

But the 25-year-old is on his way back to full fitness after starting for Arsenal Under-21s in their EFL Trophy tie against Gillingham on Tuesday. He is unlikely to be ready to return for the Leeds game, however.

Reiss Nelson

The Arsenal winger, 20, missed the last two games with a knee problem but the club said he is back in full training this week.
