Arsenal injury latest including expected return dates after Granit Xhaka blow

Arsenal are in the rare position of having just one injury concern in the entire squad as they gear up for their next league outing away at Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Gunners' run of having every single member of the senior side fit lasted just one game before Granit Xhaka sustained a nasty looking injury to his right-knee against Tottenham.

The divisive Swiss midfielder has "suffered a significant injury to his medial knee ligament" according to Arsenal's official injury report.

Despite having clear flaws in his game, Xhaka is undeniably an integral part of the way manager Mikel Arteta wants his side to set up, a regular on the team-sheet when fit.

Thankfully, Arsenal's update confirmed that Xhaka will not require any surgery on the knock in a statement reading: "A specialist consultation took place in London on Tuesday evening which has determined that Granit does not require surgery.

"Granit’s recovery and rehabilitation programme will start immediately and we are aiming for him to be back in action in approximately three months.

"Everyone at the club will now be supporting and working hard with Granit to get him back on the pitch as soon as possible."

The vacancy in Arsenal's midfield is likely to be filled by summer signing Albert Sambi Lokonga, the former Anderlecht midfielder impressing when given the chance in pre-season, before a number of stellar cameos in the league thus far this season.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles could also view Xhaka's injury as a chance to stake his claim in the role he has always wanted, just over a month after he publicly declared he "just wants to play where he feels wanted" via his Instagram stories.

The matter was put to bed after talks between player and manager, with Arteta since deploying Maitland-Niles in the central midfield role in the recent 1-0 home win over Norwich.

Arsenal have not tasted defeat for the entirety of September, winning all three of their Premier League clashes against Norwich, Burnley and most notably Tottenham Hotspur.

Last Sunday's emphatic win over their most hated opposition has significantly boosted morale around the club, something that was desperately needed given how poor the opening exchanges of the new season were for Arsenal.

The opening league games saw a return of three losses, zero goals scored and nine conceded - the Gunners' worst start to a league season for 118 years.

Since the 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Manchester City, Arsenal have played some of their best football in recent memory under Arteta - the win over Spurs a testament to how good the Gunners can be if it all falls into place.

All six of the summer signings have settled in North London, with Aaron Ramsdale and Takehiro Tomiyasu enjoying the bulk of the plaudits for their stunning display's last Sunday.
