Arsenal are in talks with Ajax over a permanent move for Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Standard Sport understands that an agreement had been reached between the two clubs for a loan deal until the end of the season, with Ajax set to cover his salary in full.

Zinchenko was expected to undergo a medical on Tuesday ahead of completing the move.

The 29-year-old's contract at Arsenal expires at the end of the season and Ajax already had an eye on signing him as a free agent in the summer.

However, discussions are now focused on a permanent transfer this month, meaning plans for a medical on Tuesday have been put on hold.

Completing that deal would allow Arsenal to get a cut-price fee for Zinchenko rather than seeing him leave for free in six months.

Zinchenko has spent the first half of the season on loan at Nottingham Forest but made only five Premier League appearances.

He was also recently removed from the club's Europa League squad and informed by Sean Dyche that he was not in his plans.

Although Forest were keen to bring a premature end to Zinchenko's loan spell, the agreement with Arsenal had no break clause.

The Gunners also had no plans to bring the versatile full-back back into their squad, and so the onus has been on Forest to find an alternative solution.

Ajax's interest has suited all parties and the unexpected option of a permanent transfer in January is one that would suit Arsenal.
