Arsenal in pole position for Orkun Kokcu transfer as they prepare to 'outbid' Sevilla

Arsenal are reportedly lining up a bid for Feyenoord attacking midfielder Orkun Kokcu this summer as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his squad.

The Gunners made two signings in January, bringing in Pablo Mari from Flamengo and Cedric Soares from Southampton on loan moves until the end of the season.

Arteta clearly wishes to make more additions at the end of the season, however, and is believed to be keen to add some more attacking flair.

According to Spanish outlet La Razon, the club are keeping an eye on Kokcu, who is also attracting the interests of Sevilla.

Kokcu, 19, recently broke into the first-team squad at Feyenoord and has impressed in the Eredivisie this season, making 22 appearances and scoring twice and creating four assists.

He has also represented Turkey at U21 level and is expected to win his first senior cap for his nation once international football returns.

Arsenal are thought to be willing to offer around £25m for his services, which is more than Sevilla are currently prepared to bid, meaning the Gunners may have stolen a march on their transfer rivals.

Kokcu's contract runs until 2023 but Feyenoord are said to be willing to let him go if they receive a bid they deem acceptable, and he would certainly be an interesting prospect and another potential future star at the Emirates.

Meanwhile Arsenal are preparing to return to their training ground next week after they were forced to shut it down when Arteta tested positive for coronavirus.

They are expected back in training on Tuesday 24 March, although it is still not clear when they will be back in action with competitive matches again.

An emergency Premier League board meeting will be held via conference call on Thursday in which clubs are expected to reiterate their commitment to completing the current season.
