Arsenal implications on midfield transfer targets as Dani Ceballos closes in on loan move

It is not yet clear whether Arsenal are still keen on bringing in either Thomas Partey or Houssem Aouar this summer amid reports suggesting they are closing in on a deal to re-sign Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos on another loan deal.

Ceballos spent the season at the Emirates in the 2019-20 campaign, and despite suffering injury problems the 24-year-old impressed while he was fit, playing a big part in the side which won the FA Cup under Mikel Arteta.

He has now returned to Madrid, but the Gunners are allegedly close to signing him on another loan for the upcoming season in a move which is likely to delight fans of the club.

Some, however, are worried that could spell the end of Arsenal's business in the current transfer window.

And according to The Athletic the Gunners are still deciding whether or not to pursue another midfielder.

Atletico Madrid's Partey is a player they have been following for some time, with the Ghanaian international impressing in La Liga over the last few years.

He himself is thought to be keen on a move to north London, and has a release clause of £44.5m.

However, with Arsenal having already completed the signings of Willian and Gabriel Magalhaes, not to mention the imminent arrival of Ceballos, it is debatable whether they would be able to afford Partey.

Likewise, Lyon playmaker Aouar has caught Arteta's eye recently, and the Spaniard is said to be a big fan.

But with the French side likely to demand up to £54m for the 22-year-old, it may be a deal that proves to be impossible financially.

It will be intriguing to see whether Arsenal make any more moves in the near future, with their Premier League opener against Fulham on September 12 now just under a week away.
