Arsenal identify sporting director who signed Luis Suarez as new number one target

Arsenal have been forced to go back to the drawing board in recent weeks in regards to their search for a new director of football but if reports are to be believed, they have found a new target.

The new man is reportedly Andoni Zubizarreta of Marseille, who is currently heading up the role for the French club.

The Gunners had to go back to square one in their bid to replace Sven Mislintat following Monchi’s decision to return to Sevilla.

Former Arsenal player Marc Overmars was also linked with the vacant position at the Emirates but instead chose to sign a contract extension at Ajax.

But now it’s being reported that Arsenal are chasing Zubizarreta from Marseille, according to L'Equipe.

Zubizarreta has a strong track record of signing top players from his time at Barcelona as he landed the likes of Neymar, Luis Suarez, Jordi Alba and Ivan Rakitic.

He returned to Marseille in 2016 after leaving Barcelona a year earlier but now Arsenal are said to be eager to tempt him to switch to the UK.

Current manager Unai Emery has previously spoken of his desire to see a new director of football installed sooner rather than later and would likely welcome this update.
