Arsenal hijack Man Utd's failed deal as Kylian Mbappe move opens door for late Edu masterstroke

Welcome to our football.london Arsenal media watch piece. Maybe not the first, we've definitely done transfer round-ups before, and European round-ups, so I guess in some ways it's not that new at all. Anyway, we thought we would enter the world of football in a broad and roundabout manner for you and have some fun with some of the stories and captions doing the daily rounds.

Maitland-Niles set for loan

Everton have began talks with Arsenal over the services of Ainsley Maitland-Niles on an initial season-long loan with an option to buy, reports claim.

The Gunners have received a formal loan offer from the Toffees, according to The Athletic, but the north London side are yet to respond.

The Hale End graduate would become Rafa Benítez's fifth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Asmir Begovic, Andros Townsend, Demarai Gray and Andy Lonergan.

Maitland-Niles has struggled for game time under Mikel Arteta since the 24-year-old's stern admission insisting that he saw his future as a central midfielder having previously enjoyed minutes operating as a make-shift full-back or wing-back.

The England international became Arsenal's jack-of-all-trades last season making 21 appearances but averaged just 56 minutes a game across five different positions.

In search of game time at the heart of midfield, Maitland-Niles joined West Bromwich Albion in January on loan as a central midfielder.

Willian secures Gunners windfall

Willian will mutually terminate his contract at Arsenal and wave away a pay-off as the 33-year-old looks poised to complete a move to Corinthians, according to Sky Sports.

The former Chelsea winger, who arrived at the Emirates last summer on a free, is set to save Arsenal £20 million by walking away from his current £240,000 per week deal, while also taking a 70% wage cut at his new club.

Willian's token of goodwill has reportedly left the Arsenal board astonished, securing the Gunners a healthy windfall to take into the twilight hours of the transfer window before it slams shut.

Mbappe opens door for late Gunners move

Arsenal have been put on red alert as Kylian Mabppe's potential move to Real Madrid opens the door to Marco Asensio's departure from Real Madrid, according to reports.

Spanish outlet Fichajes reported that the Spaniard, who like Mbappe typically occupies the left-wing, has fallen down Carlo Ancelotti's pecking order at the Santiago Bernabeu and has become available before the transfer window slams shut.

A handful of Premier League clubs are interested in signing the 25-year-old, according to Fichajes, however, Mikel Arteta's side are the keenest.

The Arsenal hierarchy have made contact with Real Madrid, according to The Mirror, as the Gunners plot their second transfer of the summer from Los Blancos, following former teammate Martin Odegaard.

Nelson set for loan

football.london can exclusively reveal that Feyernoord have signed Reiss Nelson to the Eredivisie on a season-long loan, having previously eyed a move for Manchester United's Amad.

Amad had agreed terms with the Dutch side on a season-long loan move but the deal was cancelled after the 19-year-old suffered an injury in training.

Nelson has failed to etch himself into Arteta's immediate plans in north London despite showing glimpses of promise off the bench and in the Europa League last season.

The Hale End graduate featured just nine times last season for the Gunners and struggled with injuries that halted his match fitness, often appearing in under-23 games in Premier League 2.

Nelson will join forces with former Gunner, Robin van Persie - the Feyernoord assistant manager, who could help facilitate the 21-year-old's development.
