Arsenal have provided the blueprint to stopping Chelsea star for Leicester City and Man City

Jamie Redknapp believes Arsenal defended Mason Mount to a T on Wednesday night.

Arsenal claimed a vital three points as they chase down a UEFA Conference League spot thanks to Emile Smith Rowe's strike, the Gunners taking advantage of a huge error from Jorginho.

The win sees the Gunners move one point behind Tottenham, who are in seventh and with a game in hand, preserving their outside chances of avoiding a first season without European football for 25 years.

And while Chelsea did have their chances at Stamford Bridge, Kai Havertz missing a sitter and the Blues twice hitting the bar, Arsenal did manage to keep midfielder Mount quiet.

Mount has been excellent for the Blues this season, becoming one of the most promising talents in European football with many excellent appearances, including those against Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals.

But ahead of Chelsea's Champions League final with Manchester City and the FA Cup final with Leicester City before then, Arsenal might just have shown those two clubs how to defend Mount.

“Mason Mount, I have to say, I think Arsenal did a really good job on him today," Redknapp told Sky Sports.

"They stopped him having an influence, they never really let him get on the ball, even when he played deeper.

"Tuchel tried to make that change by taking off young Billy Gilmour but that didn’t really make much of a difference either.”

Arsenal's example is one Leicester and Manchester City will want to take a look at as they prepare to face Chelsea with silverware on the line.

The FA Cup final takes place this Saturday with the Champions League final on May 29, in Porto.

Though, by then, Mount will have Mateo Kovacic and N'Golo Kante back alongside him, two key players in Tuchel's midfield.
