Arsenal have 'learnt from mistakes' of Europa League failure last season, says Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang insists Arsenal have learnt from the mistakes of 12 months ago as they look to reach the Europa League final this season.

The Gunners wasted a number of opportunities in front of goal as Atletico Madrid beat them 2-1 over 120 minutes in the semi-final last season, and then went on to win the trophy.

A slow start looked like being Arsenal's undoing, and not for the first time, on Thursday evening only for them to roar back with three goals to take a commanding lead to Valencia.

"It's our target to reach the final and win this trophy," Aubameyang told BT Sport. "We know it's an opportunity to qualify for next year's Champions League.

"We stopped in the semi-finals last year but we've learned from last year's errors and hopefully this year we won't do the same.

"We will give everything to qualify for the Champions League."

Alexandre Lacazette scored twice to cancel out Mouctar Diakhaby's opener before Aubameyang volleyed home in the 90th minute.

He said: "I hope that third goal will be important. We started not so good but we had a good reaction and I think today we played very well.

"We started a bit nervous because we lost the last three games, I think that's normal. We are human, but after that we had a good reaction.

"We have a lot of quality in this group and we can go to the final. We know the next game will be difficult but if we have the same ingredients there then we will go through.
