Arsenal have fulfilled Xavi Simons first transfer requirement as PSV meeting scheduled

PSV Eindhoven star Xavi Simons has outlined his stance on his future ahead of the summer transfer window. The Dutch talent has admitted he is yet to meet with PSV and discuss his future as they look to appoint a new manager following Ruud van Nistelrooy's shock departure.

Fred Rutten assumed a caretaker managerial position after the Manchester United icon left the club before PSV's final game of the season. Paris Saint-Germain have a buy-back clause in Simons' contract but they too are looking to appoint a new head coach - with Julian Nagelsmann currently favourite to replace Christophe Galtier.

A move to the Premier League may be a possibility for the 20 year-old playmaker with reports linking him with a switch to Arsenal. The Gunners are looking to add midfield reinforcements to Mikel Arteta's squad this summer - along with a new defender and versatile attacker.

PSV will likely demand a club record fee - which currently stands at £38.5 million - should they decide to sanction a move for Simons. The Dutch giants have often been used as a conveyor belt of exquisite talent in recent years with Cody Gakpo the most recent departure after he joined Liverpool in January.

Simons enjoyed a superb first season in the Netherlands after signing for PSV on a free transfer from PSG. He scored 22 goals and assisted a further 12 in 48 games, helping them qualify for the Champions League next season.

The young prodigy is currently with the Netherlands national team ahead of the Nations League semi-final clash with Croatia next week, with the winner taking on the winner of Spain or Italy four days later. "I don't know yet," Simons said when asked about his future.

"I'm now with the Dutch national team, I'm going to work here for two weeks and then we'll see what happens. Soon we will decide together with family what is best for me."

Simons has now given a fresh stance on his future ahead of the summer transfer window opening next week. “Clearly a lot has changed now," he said.

"I haven’t met or spoken to the new manager yet. I will speak to him and sit with PSV, then decide my future.

“I’m aware of PSG clause to bring me back. But, as far as I’m aware, they also don’t have a manager yet."

Simons' comments suggest he is waiting to see who PSV and PSG appoint as their new managers before making a decision on his future. The uncertainty at both clubs could benefit Arsenal who are very settled and showing huge signs of progress under Arteta - ticking one of the Dutchman's requirements already.

The Spaniard has shown he is capable of developing young talents into world-class players - with Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard thriving at the Emirates Stadium. Simons could make worse decisions than to try and push for a move to the Gunners who are actively searching for a versatile forward to reinforce their squad - matching Simons' profile since he can play on either wing or as a No.10.
