Arsenal have already submitted 'first offer' for £25.8m summer transfer target

Arsenal have already made an offer for Sheffield United star Sander Berge.

That's according to the latest reports overseas with the Gunners eyeing the Blades midfielder in a bid to build Mikel Arteta's perfect midfield.

Football.london understands Berge is keen on a move to Arsenal, particularly if the Gunners can convince Real Madrid to let them keep Martin Odegaard beyond this season.

The Odegaard chase isn't looking particularly positive with Real Madrid keen to keep the Norwegian, but there is plenty of hope as far as Berge is concerned.

With Sheffield United willing to sell, there is said to be interest from elsewhere, including Liverpool and Tottenham, but with the midfielder keen on the Gunners, Arteta's men are favourites.

Though, they are going to have to do better than their first bid, or at least according to French outlet Jeunes Footeux via Sport Witness, who were one of the first to report Arsenal's interest in the midfielder.

They say Arsenal have already made a bid worth around £17.2million for Berge, but Sheffield United are said to want a minimum of £25.8million plus a 10-20% sell-on fee.

It seems Arsenal are acting quickly to get the Berge deal done amid interest from elsewhere.

Berge signed for Sheffield United for £20.7million, so there's no surprise the Yorkshire club turned their noses up at that opening offer, if the report is true.

Heading for the Championship, the Blades aren't likely to make the profit they desired from Berge, but given the interest, they are likely to at least make some profit on their impressive 23-year-old.
