Agent and club chief 'confirm' wonderkid's Arsenal transfer

Arsenal have completed the signing of winger George Lewis, according to the sporting director at his former club Fram Larvik.

As reported by football.london in May, the Norwegian teenager impressed club figures during a trial spell earlier this year, and the Gunners have moved to secured his signature.

Lewis was a free agent after several seasons in Norway and had attracted interest from clubs in Portugal and elsewhere in Europe before catching the eye during a fortnight with Arsenal in March.

The wide forward, who is adapt at playing on either flank, is expected to join up with Steve Bould's Under-23 side but Mikel Arteta has already shown a willingness to promote their best and brightest swiftly, moving Gabriel Martinelli up to the first-team within two months of his arrival from Ituano.

Jostein Jensen, the sporting director at Lewis' former club, told VG.no : “Yes, we can confirm that. I have been told that he has signed for Arsenal.”

The youngster’s agent, Cheikh Diaw also seemingly confirmed the move, but admitted it was not announced yet.

“He’s ready for Arsenal, yes. The club has not made it official yet, but he has signed for the club.

"They are really looking forward to getting George, who they see as an exciting player.”

Lewis, whose targeting by Arsenal was first reported by Goal, is not the only young prospect from Scandinavia to have caught Arsenal's eye in recent months.

Swedish midfielder Ismet Lushaku, who plays for AFC Eskilstuna, claimed that he received an invite to train with Bould's side before Mikel Arteta's coronavirus diagnosis forced the club to pull the plug on the deal.
