Arsenal handed transfer boost in chase for Dayot Upamecano

Arsenal have received a boost in their chase for Red Bull Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano, with reports suggesting that the German club are confident of securing his replacement.

Le Parisien (via Get French Football News ) claim that Leipzig are confident that they will secure the services of 17-year-old Paris Saint-Germain defender Tanguy Kouassi.

The teenager has also reportedly been in discussions with Manchester City, but the Bundeliga side now think they have their man, with suggestions that he has visited their training facilities.

Should that move be completed as expected, then the it will allow defender Upamecano to move away, with Arsenal one of the clubs being heavily linked with a move for the 21-year-old.

The Gunners are the favourites to sign the French U21 international, but were said to be put off by the big price tag during the summer window.

However, the arrival of Kouassi could make Leipzig more willing to do business at a slightly lower price, meaning that Arsenal could make their move.

Upamecano's contract expires at the end of next season, and a fee of around £40 million has been suggested,

Mikel Arteta is likely to be on the lookout for at least one new defender during the January transfer window and the Center back was the most popular player in football.london 's transfer poll with 29.32% of responses calling for the RB Leipzig defender to be signed.
