Arsenal handed shock Sergio Ramos transfer boost amid PSG contract standoff

Former Real Madrid centre-back Sergio Ramos could still move to the Premier League this summer, despite PSG holding initial talks with the veteran.

Ramos, 35, is now a free agent after new contract negotiations broke down with Real Madrid.

All indications point towards the World Cup winner taking the next steps in his illustrious career in France with the Parisians, but the deal doesn't seem as advanced as initially thought, and therefore there is still a chance for another club to make their move.

This according to the reliable Rubén Uría from Goal, who claims that no deal has been agreed yet between Ramos and PSG.

Uria has also informed that Arsenal have asked to be kept updated regarding any future talks regarding the former Real Madrid captain.

Los Blancos' ex-talisman still believes he has a lot to offer to clubs around Europe, and is therefore seeking a two-year contract.

Mauricio Pochettino's club are very keen to reunite Ramos with some familiar faces, including ex-Real Madrid colleagues Keylor Navas and Angel Di Maria. Most importantly though, the ex-Tottenham boss will want the experience in his side that Ramos can bring in abundance.

He's a serial winner, and his knowhow when it comes to winning the big trophies like the Champions League is something that PSG are desperate for.

Nasser Al-Khelaifi and the rest of the Qatar Sports Investments group have sacked multiple managers for not being able to win the Champions League, and Pochettino is the next person who is looking to break the curse that has cost several managers over the years.

Ramos would certainly be one of the pieces in the jigsaw needed to help PSG improve on the semi-final defeat last time out in the Champions League against Manchester City.

Georginio Wijnaldum, Gianluigi Donnarumma, and Achraf Hakimi coupled with the potential signing of the 35-year-old would certainly push PSG to being favourites to win the 2021/22 Champions League final.

But Arsenal are said to be looking to derail this plan, as they look to refresh their squad in this crucial rebuild ahead of next season. David Luiz is likely to leave this summer, meaning a centre-back vacancy is there to be filled at the Emirates stadium.

"He will do very well for sure, and this is his home. I would be delighted if Sergio Ramos went to a club that offered him what we have not been able to offer him," President Florentino Perez said to El Transistor.

Whether Ramos is the primary target the Arsenal hierarchy will pursue or not remains to be seen, but time is running out with Pochettino's side looking to advance talks soon for the centre-half.
