Arsenal handed perfect Premier League title omen as Mikel Arteta makes club history with award

Arsenal may have lost against Everton yesterday but Mikel Arteta has been handed the perfect Premier League title omen. The Gunners were unable to find a goal against the Toffees as James Tarkowski scored the only goal of the game.

The north London outfit added three new players to Arteta's squad in the January transfer window with the arrivals of Leandro Trossard, Jakub Kiwior and Jorginho. Arsenal have dropped just eight points in 20 games so far this season and remain five points clear at the Premier League summit.

Manchester City have the chance to close in on their main title rivals today with a win against Tottenham able to move them within just two points of the Gunners. Arteta will be hoping Arsenal's north London rivals can give them a major advantage in the title race by getting a positive result against City.

The Gunners have been by far the best team in the division this term as Arteta continues to evolve and develop his squad into a team that can consistently challenge for the top honours in football. A Premier League title challenge was not expected this term after the club missed out on a top four spot last season, with many pundits and fans feeling that the Spaniard would not be in the job come the start of the 2022/23 campaign.

Arsenal chose to stick with Arteta and the decision has paid dividends, with the Gunners sat five points clear at the top of the table with just three months of the season left to play. The Arsenal boss picked up his third Premier League Manager of the Month award in January - the first time a manager has won it three times in the same season at the Emirates Stadium.

It is the first time a manager has picked up the award on three occasions since Jurgen Klopp did so with Liverpool in the 2019/20 season. The Reds went on to win their first league title in 30 years that campaign, which could be a good omen for Arteta and Arsenal as they look to lift the Premier League trophy for the first time since 2004.

City will continue to fight the Gunners all the way, with both teams still set to face each other twice before the season ends, which may end up deciding which club finishes on top come May. A disappointing defeat to Everton will not derail Arsenal's title charge, but injuries may threaten to end their hopes, despite the new arrivals at the Emirates Stadium.
