The return of the Bundesliga sparked excitement across the football community but Arsenal fans will have a deeper reason to tune into German football as it was not just the top flight that was given the go-ahead.
“Today's decision is good news for the Bundesliga and the 2nd Bundesliga. It is associated with a great responsibility for the clubs and their employees to implement the medical and organisational requirements in a disciplined manner," DFL managing director and spokesman for the DFL presidium told dfl.de.
"Games without stadium spectators are not an ideal solution for anyone. In a crisis threatening the very existence of some clubs, however, it is the only way to ensure the continued existence of the leagues in their current form.
"On this day, I would like to thank the political decision-makers from the federal and state governments for their trust."
2. Bundesliga will return alongside the top flight for the second half of May which will mean two Arsenal loanees could be back in action.
Konstantinos Mavropanos completed a loan move to Nuremberg in January whereas Jordi Osei-Tutu has been at VfL Bochum for the entire 2019/20 campaign.
On the whole, Mavropanos' short spell in the Bundesliga 2 went well. After a shocking debut, he responded with three outstanding performances in succession. In these games he won a man of the match award, made a crucial goal line clearance and get the side back-to-back wins for the first time all season.
He did sustain a pelvis injury in February but was already back training by the time the league was suspended in March.
Nuremberg have already taken steps towards returning to action as the club confirmed players will be back training on Thursday [May 7]. Furthermore, they will be live streaming the session from 1:30pm German time on their Facebook page.
For Osei-Tutu, his loan spell has been quite mixed. Starting well in the side but then going from November to March without starting a single game. Upon his return he was playing well as a right winger [scoring one and assisting another goal in his first start back] but the enforced break halted his progress.
