Arsenal handed Gabriel Magalhaes transfer boost as Lille close in on replacement

With the transfer window now in full swing, Mikel Arteta is on the lookout for signings to strengthen his squad ahead of next season.

After a disappointing eighth-place finish in the Premier League, Arsenal finished the campaign on a high by lifting the FA Cup.

That victory also ensured that they will be playing European football again next season, which makes the need to add players even greater for Arteta as he looks to lead the Gunners back to the Champions League.

A number of names have already been linked with Arsenal, with Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey emerging as the number one target for the Gunners.

But Arteta will also be looking to strengthen his backline ahead of the new campaign and it seems that Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes could be a player that the Arsenal boss has targeted.

The 22-year-old was left out of the Lille squad for their pre-season friendly against AZ Alkmaar on Saturday, prompting talk that he could be on his way to the Emirates Stadium .

It now seems that the French side are preparing for life without the central defender, with journalist Alexandre Ernst claiming that Lille have completed the signing of Bruno Fuchs from Inter Milan for a fee of around £6.7 million.

Arsenal are reportedly leading the chase for Gabriel, with a transfer expected to cost around £28.8 million.

Everton and Manchester United have also been linked with the defender, with ESPN claiming that the Brazilian would make a decision on his future over the weekend.
