Arsenal handed fitness boost over influential midfielder as duo return for Leeds United clash

Arsenal could welcome back influential midfielder Thomas Partey against Leeds United on Sunday.

The Whites head to the Emirates this weekend hoping for a repeat performance against the Gunners after dominating and hit the woodwork four times in a 0-0 draw at Elland Road in November.

Nicolas Pepe saw red early in the second half and Mikel Arteta's side somehow hung on for a point, leaving Leeds frustrated despite turning in a strong performance.

Arsenal are hopeful to have Partey available for the weekend clash after a stop-start debut season for their summer deadline day addition.

The 27-year-old, who joined the club from Atletico Madrid in the summer, was taken off 15 minutes before full time during Arsenal's 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday.

Partey had only recently returned to the team after suffering a hip injury which kept him out for 10 games and this further setback had Arsenal fans fearing the worst.

"I don't know he had a muscular issue so we had to take him off," Arteta said after their 1-0 reverse at Villa Park.

"He could not carry on playing. We will see the extent of the injury. He wasn't feeling well enough to continue playing so we had to take him off."

However, our sister title football.london report that Partey could be fit to face Leeds, with the injury not thought to be serious.

Former Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney could also return to their squad at the weekend, having missed the last two matches with an upper leg complaint.

Bern Leno and David Luiz will also return from suspension after serving one-game bans after they were both sent off in the same match against Wolves.
