Arsenal handed boost in Marcus Thuram transfer race amid Borussia Monchengladbach decision

Arsenal have been given a boost in their pursuit of Borussia Monchengladbach star Marcus Thuram whose current contract is set to expire in 2023. Chelsea and Spurs have also been linked with the Frenchman who is currently away in Qatar with France and may feature in their final World Cup group game with qualification secured for Didier Deschamps side.

Thuram, who is the son of legendary French defender Lillian Thuram, has 12 goals and four assists for Monchengladbach this season which has attracted the interest of a number of Premier League clubs including Arsenal.

The future of Thuram seemed to be up in the air with his current contract set to expire in the summer but the 25-year-old is unlikely to sign a new deal at the German club according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.

Romano told GiveMeSport "So, there are many clubs approaching his agent. From what I'm told, he's not going to extend the contract, so it makes a big opportunity for many clubs in the summer."

A new report from Sports Bild further supports the likeliness of Thuram's future being elsewhere with Monchengladbach now looking for replacements with NK Osijek youngster Dion Drena Beljo and AZ Alkmaar star Vangelis Pavlidi two names on the list.

The report does state that an offer for a new contract is still on the table for Thuram, although Monchengladbach may prefer to part ways with their star forward in January so they can receive a fee as opposed to seeing him leave in the summer on a free transfer.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs are all closely-watching Thuram while outside of England Bayern, Dortmund, Inter, Atlético Madrid and Sevilla are all showing interest.
