Arsenal handed boost as Newcastle United suffer injury scare

The international break always makes it feel like forever between Premier League encounters.

But when the top flight action returns next weekend, Arsenal's opponents could be without one of their key men.

The Gunners take on Newcastle United when the Premier League returns next weekend, although they have to wait until April 1 to get back out on the pitch as their game with Newcastle is live on Monday Night Football on Sky Sports.

And the Magpies will be grateful for the extra bit of time off, in order for one of their key men to recover from an injury picked up on international duty.

Per Mertesacker reveals how Freddie Ljungberg is getting the best out of Arsenal's hot prospects

Fabian Schar has been in fine form of late, with the defender scoring three goals in his last eight Newcastle appearances, playing an integral role in the Magpies good run of form that has seen them win five and draw two of their last nine Premier League clashes - moving them away from the relegation zone.

But Newcastle supporters will have watched on concernedly on Saturday as the 27-year-old defender went down injured during Switzerland's win over Georgia in Euro 2020 qualifying.

Schar clashed heads with Georgia's Jemal Tabidze, and was unconscious on the pitch for a number of minutes.

He did, however, manage to recover, and played on for the rest of the match.

He is sure to be monitored by the Newcastle medical team ahead of the game against Arsenal at the Emirates on April 1.
