Arsenal handed £16m January 'advantage' after unexpected twist as Thomas Partey fears confirmed

Welcome to The Arsenal Way daily round-up where we take a look at some of the best Arsenal stories that you might have missed.

Arsenal have reportedly reignited their interest in one of Takehiro Tomiyasu's former teammates ahead of a potential January move.

Mikel Arteta faces a Thomas Partey dilemma following the latest Ghana announcement ahead of the African Cup of Nations.

Meanwhile, Bukayo Saka has been included on a list ranking the world's 100 best footballers as the Arsenal sensation receives even more recognition.

Let's take a look at the above stories in more detail...

Edu targets Svanberg swoop

Arsenal are interested in signing Bologna's Mattias Svenberg as they look to take advantage of the midfielder's contract situation, according to Il Resto del Carlino via Sport Witness.

The report states that Svanberg's contract expires in 2023 and there was confidence that he would sign a new deal with the Serie A side. However, that hasn’t happened so far and there's no indication of the situation changing soon.

This has put the Gunners on red alert once again as they look to convince the player to join, although other Italian clubs are also thought to be keen.

It is believed that Bologna hope to raise between £12m and £16m from his sale.

Our View: Svanberg may not be a name that many of you are familiar with but I think that's what excites me most. We've seen it with Tomiyasu and Gabriel Martinelli, for example, where hidden talents have arrived at a reasonable price, yet their talent is clear for all to see.

It's gems like these that I am keen for the club to continue adding. Svanberg is young but experienced and already making a name for himself. With Arsenal set to be short in midfield come January, this is a deal that I can absolutely get behind.

Partey's AFCON inclusion confirmed

Ghana's national team has officially confirmed that Thomas Partey will join up with them for the African Cup of Nations.

Partey will be one of four expected Arsenal players to be involved in the tournament, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Nicolas Pepe and Mohamed Elneny also set to be called up by their respective countries.

The competition is set to run from January 9th to February 6th, meaning Mikel Arteta will be without some key players for several fixtures.

Our View: It's of course far from ideal to have any players unavailable, no matter what their role in the team is. Aubameyang and Pepe's lack of involvement in recent weeks has perhaps told us that we can cope without them in the meantime.

Despite this, Partey's absence does concern me to a certain extent as it means Granit Xhaka, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Ainsley Maitland-Niles are the only senior central midfield options.

Saka makes star-studded list

Bukayo Saka's incredible rise has been recognised yet again after being included in The Guardian's '100 best male footballers in the world' for 2021.

The list currently includes some of the game's most exciting talents such as Neymar and former Arsenal player Serge Gnabry, with the top 10 yet to be revealed.

Saka is ranked 95th and ahead of Liverpool's Fabinho and Barcelona's Gavi.

Our View: It's always nice to see our players get the recognition that they deserve. I can't help but feel that the decision to leave out Emile Smith Rowe is harsh but that is perhaps just the Arsenal-tinted spectacles speaking.
