Arsenal half-time player ratings vs Rangers as Tavares impresses but Aubameyang struggles

Arthur Okonkwo: Relatively untested but looked far more assured after his unfortunate error at Hibernian. Decent playing out from the back also. 6.

Cedric: Caught out of position in the build-up to Pablo Mari's yellow card and looked worryingly slow as he tried to chase back. Some decent runs going forward. 5.

Rob Holding: Some commanding clearances in the box to demonstrate his strong aerial ability. Could be heard shouting as usual showing his leadership on the pitch. 6.

Pablo Mari: One very agricultural tackle on the unfortunate Calvin Bassey saw him booked. Some loose passing at the back forced him out position on occasion exposing his lack of mobility, but some good passing made up for it. 5.

Nuno Tavares: With powerful runs forward and two footedness you can see immediately what Tavares is all about. An excellent goal capped off a solid debut in which he was admittedly untested defensively. 8.

Thomas Partey: Decent in possession to keep the game ticking over in the middle of the park. Some bright sparks but nothing overly noteworthy. 6.

Mohamed Elneny: Lost his man for Leon Balogun's headed opener from a set-piece, and then struggled to show much adventure when in possession. A decent moment covering when Mari was dragged out of position though. 5.

Nicolas Pepe: Perhaps could have been stronger at the near post for the corner Rangers scored from, but showed some nice direct play to create chances for Arsenal. 6.

Emile Smith Rowe: Looks far more determined than ever to score goals this season and is getting more shots off. He still is just as good at linking the play though and did this effectively throughout the first half. 7.

Folarin Balogun: Somewhat strangely featured on the left-wing rather than up front as expected and had some decent chances. Some nice moments of strong dribbling too. 6.

Pierre-Emerick Aubemayang: Three awful misses will do little to silence those who believe the Gabon forward is past his best. Needs to start taking these in time for the regular season. 4.
