Arsenal great Tony Adams issues firm defence of Mesut Ozil after Brighton outburst

Former Arsenal captain Tony Adams has launched a strong defence of Mesut Ozil after his outburst following his side’s defeat to Brighton last night (Thursday).

The defeat at the Emirates leaves the Gunners without a win in their last nine matches and fans were quick to make their feelings clear at full-time.

And Ozil, who has spent large parts of this season as an outcast as the north London club, was seen shouting in the direction of a team-mate, although it was unclear as to who his frustration was aimed towards.

But despite a mixed reaction to his outburst on social media, Adams issued a firm defence when asked about the incident and believes it shows the defeat meant something to the German.

"I don’t mind that actually. There’s a little bit of spirit there. I don’t mind that," Adams told Premier League Productions.

"Maybe he should have done it before the game. Before the game take that attitude on to the pitch.

"The game’s gone now, it’s all over.

"If he’d got the frustration out before the game and said ‘I’m really going to run around and do my stuff today’. He’s frustrated, obviously."

Arsenal, who remain 10 points off the top four following the loss, return to action when they take on West Ham on Monday night.
