Arsenal great Paul Merson slams Mesut Ozil for Mikel Arteta comments

Arsenal legend Paul Merson has slammed Mesut Ozil for criticising former boss Unai Emery.

Emery recently hit out at the poor attitude Arsenal players allegedly showed during his time at the club before he was sacked last November.

Freddie Ljungberg took over on an interim basis before Mikel Arteta was installed as the permanent replacement for Emery last December.

Ozil has since explained that the team is much happier under Arteta and that they are willing to 'give everything'.

Merson has not taken kindly to the comments from Ozil and he let his feelings known on Sky Sports' The Debate.

"I’m not a great lover of that (Ozil's comments). I don’t like it when a manager comes in and says the players aren’t fit. Because that’s a dig at the old manager," Merson told Sky Sports.

"And then a manager comes in and the players start saying ‘it’s better now, it’s more fun’, no. I believe what Emery is saying. They shouldn’t have been where they were with the quality they have. ‘The players weren’t doing the right things. You just don’t say anything."

For context, here is what Ozil had to say about the Emery to Arteta transition.

"As a team, we are much happier and everyone wants to give everything for this club. Especially tactically we have improved a lot and I hope in the future we will be more successful," Ozil explained, per Mirror Football.
