Arsenal great names Patrick Vieira as the man to replace Unai Emery

Arsenal great David Seaman is calling on his former club to look in the direction of Patrick Vieira when appointing their next head coach.

Unai Emery was sacked as Arsenal’s head coach on Friday morning with Freddie Ljungberg placed in temporary charge while a permanent replacement is sought.

The Gunners are seven games without a win and eight points of the Champions League places, with supporters up in arms over the club’s recent regression.

And Seaman believes those fans would love to see Vieira back at the club.

“Well what I really want from Arsenal is for them to be more exciting and don’t go for a manager tried and tested, go for someone exciting that is up and coming,” the former goalkeeper told Sky Sports News.

“I’ve seen a lot of names mentioned....Eddie Howe, Allegri and Arteta. You know what, someone like Patrick Viera.

“I’m sure the fans would love to see Patrick back at the club and give him ago. Just be different and try something different.”

Seaman also believes that Arsenal’s players need to look at themselves following their poor run of form this season, and Emery's sacking.

“The players need to take a lot of responsibility as when you look at their performances they have not been good enough,” the former England international added.

“We have seen players sulking, the captain sulking. The other thing that bugged me was the way he let the players choose the captain. I don’t think that helped at all. It gave the players too much strength, too much power.

“For me the manager needs to choose the captain as a go between and it is the manager’s job to do that not the players.

“It is hard to see. The leaders that you think aren’t even the captains. David Luiz is a captain, there is no doubt about that. He has come from Chelsea and won a lot of trophies. I was really surprised to see Aubameyang get the job over Luiz.

“The players need to have a long hard look at themselves and lets see what happens against Norwich on Sunday as there needs to be a big change.”
