'Arsenal got the better deal' - fans react to Henrikh Mkhitaryan joining Alexis Sanchez in Italy

Wind back the clock to January 2018, where Arsenal and Manchester United fans on social media were angrily debating which side had got the better end of a swap deal.

Alexis Sanchez, a hero in North London, burned his bridges to join the Red Devils, with the Gunners getting Henrikh Mkhitaryan in return for the former Barcelona man.

Both players were expected to play a significant part of the future successes for both Premier League giants but it certainly did not turn out that way.

18 months on, neither is still in the Premier League as Mkhitaryan completed a loan to Roma on Europe's Deadline Day, following in the footsteps of Sanchez - who last month joined Inter Milan on loan.

Looking back now, it's fairly easy to analyse what went wrong with the pair of high-earners who failed to make their mark at their new clubs, with each side having their financial obligations eased by getting them off the wage bill.

As a result, fans have taken to social media to share their thoughts on the situation - with some still adamant that it is Arsenal who got the better end of the agreement.
