Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech defends Chelsea clean sheet record as Liverpool star Alisson chases him down

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson has made a fine start to his career in England, racking up the clean sheets since arriving from Roma for £65 million in the summer.

But when the Premier League's official Twitter account hailed the Brazilian's impact in goal in his debut season for the title challengers, Petr Cech couldn't resist a cheeky quip.

Alisson's successful shut-out against Everton in the goalless Merseyside derby on Sunday means the 26-year-old has now kept a clean sheet in 17 Premier League games this season.

That total is the most by any goalkeeper in their debut season since Jose Reina achieved the feat of 20 clean sheets back in the 2005-06 campaign, a total Alisson can still surpass with nine games left.

But he still has some way to go to emulate Arsenal's veteran stopper Cech, who holds the all-time record for most clean sheets in the Premier League (202).

The Czech was keen to point out that in his debut campaign with Chelsea in 2004-05, he clocked an incredible 24 clean sheets in just 35 appearances, conceding only 13 goals.

He wrote on his Twitter account: "I know one guy who had 24CS [sic] in his debut EPL season..."

The Blues shipped just 15 goals in a record-breaking season under the guidance of Jose Mourinho and they were even able to rest Cech for the final three games.

In that historic season Cech, now 37, went 1,025 minutes without conceding a goal, which was a new Premier League record at the time, before Manchester United's Edwin van der Sar later set a new benchmark.
