Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is a doubt for Saturday’s Community Shield clash with Liverpool after having to quarantine before starting pre-season.
Martinez travelled to Portugal after last season finished and government guidelines at the time meant he had to self-isolate for two weeks upon his return.
The goalkeeper has now completed that period of quarantine, but he is a doubt for Saturday’s clash at Wembley as he has not been in training long.
Arsenal are understood to be relaxed about the situation, with the player given permission to travel and fellow goalkeeper Bernd Leno now fully fit after a knee injury and ready to start against Liverpool.
Several Premier League clubs have been impacted by players having to quarantine after returning from holiday, with Tottenham striker Harry Kane forced to do so after returning from the Bahamas.
Chelsea too have had similar issues and it is thought other members of Arsenal’s squad could have been affected, with players given staggered return dates to pre-season.
The government guidelines regarding overseas travel have made pre-season training difficult for clubs, while new signings have also been impacted too.
Gabriel Magalhaes, for example, who agreed terms with Arsenal earlier this week, is now in quarantine in the UK after arriving from France and cannot train with his new team-mates at the moment.
Arsenal assistant coach Albert Stuivenberg also had to rush back from holiday in Holland earlier this month to avoid going into quarantine ahead of pre-season starting.
