Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno keen to play every game next season after Unai Emery rotation

Bernd Leno wants to be Arsenal’s No1 goalkeeper in every competition next season.

The 27-year-old joined the Gunners last summer in a £19million deal from Bayer Leverkusen but had to wait until September 29 to make his Premier League debut as Unai Emery started the campaign with Petr Cech in goal.

Leno eventually replaced Cech in the League but was on the bench for the Europa League campaign which finished with crushing defeat against Chelsea in the final in Baku.

That match was Cech’s final game before retirement and Arsenal are set to promote Emiliano Martinez to be No2.

The club have not entirely ruled out signing a goalkeeper but, with a modest £40m available, other areas of the team are considered a much greater priority to strengthen.

Standard Sport understands Leno has expressed his desire to take on the responsibility of playing in every competition, although Martinez will likely be handed an opportunity in the EFL Cup.

Leno started 31 league games and finished the season in good form, while Martinez, 27 in September, was on loan at Reading from January.
