Arsenal given injury scare as Alexandre Lacazette leaves Emirates in protective boot

Arsenal boss Unai Emery has been given an injury scare after star striker Alexandre Lacazette was seen leaving the Emirates in a protective boot.

The Frenchman, who was Arsenal’s second top scorer last season, was forced off earlier in Sunday’s Emirates Cup defeat to Lyon after rolling his ankle, though his substitution looked to be a precaution.

With Arsenal’s season-opener against Newcastle now less than two weeks away, Emery has been left sweating on the fitness of one of his most important players, with Lacazette’s goals in tandem with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang so crucial in firing the Gunners to the Europa League final last season.

With Danny Welbeck having left the club when his contract expired earlier this summer, Arsenal are left relying on youth as cover for their first-choice front pairing.

Youth academy product Eddie Nketiah scored his first Premier League goal on the final day of last season, and was in fine form on the Gunners’ preseason tour of the US, while Brazilian teenager Gabriel Martinelli is a new arrival this summer.

The club are hoping to finalise a deal for Lille forward Nicolas Pepe this week, which could also ease the goalscoring burden
